Well, Charlie has been caught in yet another lie.On Smithgall’s own website on the home page (www.smithgallformayor.com), there is a reprint of the October 24 New Era article, “Mayoral campaign:Smithgall cites city’s resurgence” which contains the following:
“On Thursday, Gray announced that he had asked for an accounting of every outstanding criminal warrant in the city, criticizing Smithgall for claiming to be a law-and-order mayor, but allowing “tens of thousands” of warrants to go unserved. Smithgall has fought back, saying first, there are only about 4,000 outstanding warrants in the entire county and that only a portion of those are for city residents. Most, says the mayor, are for summary, non-violent offenses such as failing to pay parking tickets."
This morning, we learn that there are 22,000 outstanding warrants.And in the Intell article, “Gray:City has 22,000 unserved warrants,” (click here), Charlie is quoted saying, “I never said 4,000.I asked for a correction.”Charlie is living up to the last three letters in his name – LIE.I am going to take a longer look at the issue of the warrants and the police this weekend.

DEMOCRATS FIGHT POLLING PLACE CHANGE
Bruce Beardsley, Lancaster County Democratic Chairman, today urged the CountyCommissions, acting as the Board of Election, to reject the recommendation of their Chief Clerk, Mary Stehman, to relocate a polling place in Millersville Borough away from Manor Apartments, an assisted living Senior Citizen apartment complex.He said the move to the opposite edge of the precinct boundary is “logically unjustified, morally repugnant, and legally indefensible,” in that it would disenfranchise “…a large group of senior citizens, many of whom are disabled.”Beardsley renewed his claim, first made in a letter to Ms. Stehman on September 30, that this relocation was initiated by Louis Ochey, Millersville Republican leader and was “transparently partisan.”He argued that “Manor Apartments has been a suitable polling place for many years,” and that Ms. Stehman’s “rationale for moving defies the facts and is inexplicable.”
In a prepared statement, Beardsley said, “this is part of a continuing national strategy by the Republican Party.They did it in Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004.Delay did it in Texas, and they tried to do it in LancasterCity earlier this year.If they can’t win legitimately, they try intimidation, redistricting…anything to make it more difficult for Democrats to vote.We had to take them to court earlier this year and we won.Hopefully, even though the Republicans have the majority on the Board of Elections, they will take their oath to ensure a fair election process seriously and do the right thing.I always have faith that people will be fair and honest.Sometimes, I’m disappointed.”

The two biggest problems in Lancaster are drugs and guns, and the Mayor of Lancaster sells both.There is not a mention in Patricia Poist’s Sunday News article, “What cut city crime is at issue,” of the allegation by Lancaster City Councilman Luis Mendoza that Mayor Smithgall sold guns from a back room in his pharmacy on West Lemon Street.
In another incredible irony, she says that District Attorney Donald Totaro credited Project Safe Neighborhoods with reducing the number of gun crimes.This is the program Luis Mendoza was fighting for when it was known as “Operation Cease Fire” and Mayor Smithgall tried to bribe him with $15,000 for the program if he voted for the mayor’s budget.The Lancaster Newspapers have never investigated or written an article about the bribe letter signed by the mayor and stamped “CONFIDENTIAL” three times.A copy of that letter is below on this website, a copy is on www.5thestate.com and it is also on www.lookingatlancaster.com.
INVESTIGATE HER DEATH
Totaro also is quoted as saying there has only been one homicide in Lancaster this year.Instead of having his CountyDetective, Dennis Arnold, working on a summary trespassing case (involving the mayor), he should have him investigate the shooting death of Renee Binkley.As noted below on this website, the District Attorney indicated that this month old case is still being investigated.

Totaro is on the prison board but no one has been charged with the prison assault on Jon Eichelman, the man who was falsely arrested for shooting a two-year-old and severely beaten in prison.And no one has been arrested and charged with the shooting of the two year old.
It took Totaro’s CountyDetectives eight weeks to find five locations with illegal gaming machines.It took Totaro’s CountyDetectives almost a year to charge Micah Stewart with the murder of Cortney Fry.During the year he was free and on the street, Stewart allegedly shot at three individuals.
If Lancaster is so safe, Mr. Totaro, why did you convene a grand jury? Why didn't Poist ask you about the second grand jury in less than four years?

The advocates of “intelligent design,” spotlighted in the current courtroom battle over the teaching of evolution in Dover, Pa., have much larger goals than biology textbooks.
The hope to discredit Darwin’s theory as part of a bigger push to restore faith to a more central role in American life.“Design theory promises to reverse the stifling dominance of the materialist worldview, and to replace it with a science consonant with Christian and theistic convictions,” says a strategy document written in 1999 by the Seattle think tank at the forefront of the movement.
The authors say they seek “nothing less than the overthrow of materialism and its cultural legacies.”
Intelligent-design advocates have focused publicly on “teaching the controversy,” urging that students be taught about weaknesses in evolutionary theory.The 1999 strategy document, though, goes well beyond that.
That “wedge document,” outlining a five-year plan for promoting intelligent design and attacking evolution, has figured prominently in the trial now under way in federal court in Harrisburg.
