IT WARRANTS DEBATE
CHARLIE, NO!
The final mayoral debate between Rick Gray and Charlie Smithgall is tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the Spanish American Civic Association at 545 Pershing Avenue. Carlos Graupera, the executive director of SACA, will moderate.
HOW MANY LIES?
Well, Charlie has been caught in yet another lie. On Smithgall’s own website on the home page (www.smithgallformayor.com), there is a reprint of the October 24 New Era article, “Mayoral campaign: Smithgall cites city’s resurgence” which contains the following:
“On Thursday, Gray announced that he had asked for an accounting of every outstanding criminal warrant in the city, criticizing Smithgall for claiming to be a law-and-order mayor, but allowing “tens of thousands” of warrants to go unserved. Smithgall has fought back, saying first, there are only about 4,000 outstanding warrants in the entire county and that only a portion of those are for city residents. Most, says the mayor, are for summary, non-violent offenses such as failing to pay parking tickets."
18,000 LIES!
This morning, we learn that there are 22,000 outstanding warrants. And in the Intell article, “Gray: City has 22,000 unserved warrants,” (click here), Charlie is quoted saying, “I never said 4,000. I asked for a correction.” Charlie is living up to the last three letters in his name – LIE. I am going to take a longer look at the issue of the warrants and the police this weekend.
ERNIE’S A LIAR, TOO!
The New Era has just come out with an article quoting editor Ernie Schreiber and attempting to paint Smithgall in a good light over the warrant situation. You know, Ernie, you literally make me sick. You are a disgrace to journalism.
COMING TOMORROW – A look at write-in candidate for City Council, R.B. Campbell. Have I mentioned I like men with beards?
VOTE THEM OUT!
Send the Republican City Council members packing November 8. They agreed last night to spend $7.06 million for a building valued at $1.3 million. A Talkbacker wrote, “save Lancaster.” It has come to that. To save Lancaster, vote Mayor Smithgall, Steve Diamantoni, Gene Duncan and Harry Stoltzfus out of office. Vote for Rick Gray for mayor and Louise Williams, Tim Roschel, Jose Urdaneta and Kendra Saunders for City Council.
Artie See posted this online under today’s Intell article, “City will buy Watt & Shand; downtown project advances”: (click here) “I anticipate the property transfer from the PSP and RACL will take place. At some point soon after, the funding will be proven to be insufficient, and the PSP will pull out. Lancaster City will be stuck with the property, the guarantees of selling it to the LCCCA or forcing the PSP to pay for it will be proven to be not worth the paper they are printed on. The taxpayers will be stuck with a loss of about six million dollars on the W&S property alone (assuming the property can be re-sold for market value, which is questionable considering the condition the PSP has allowed it to deteriorate into)."
Vote Mayor Smithgall and the council members out of office. They have allowed the Penn Square Partners to steal over $6 million dollars from the public. Vote them out!
~ Run him out of town! ~
HOLD THE MAYOR ACCOUNTABLE
HOW DOES HE GET AWAY WITH IT?
This was posted on Talkback yesterday under the thread for the New Era article, “Mayoral campaign – Smithgall cites city’s resurgence”:
“I’m kind of new around Lancaster and I’m curious about the ‘resurgence’ of downtown Lancaster. If, as the mayor claims, the ‘thriving’ downtown is something to take credit for, this mayor should be run out of town. Or, I’d hate to see what it was like before the ‘resurgence.’”
“Lancaster, in shape, size and demographics is similar to places like Wilmington, Delaware and Boulder, Colorado. For a place like Lancaster to have the downtown that it does is a crime and I’m curious why the local newspaper or TV station refuses to hold this mayor accountable for anything. He certainly would be in any other town in the country. If not for the current state of the downtown – despite his claimed ‘resurgence’ – then for the $900,000 business.”
“How can he get away with those statements and actions?”
BOOT HIS BUTT!
That is an excellent question and you make very good points. I was shocked less than a year ago by the appearance of downtown Lancaster. I don’t know how the mayor gets away with his statements and actions but I think it’s well past time to boot his sorry butt.
DIRTY POLITICS
Speaking of the mayor’s incredible statements and actions, the home page to his website (click here) has an “article” about Gray being a “puppy mill lawyer.” Included in this crap is this sentence, “Morever(sic), it has become clear that the Gray campaign’s reaction to any discussion of their candidate’s record will be to cry ‘dirty politics’ – even as they attack the Mayor relentlessly.”
LEGAL DEFENSE EFFORT
I haven’t seen Gray attack you relentlessly, Mayor Smithgall. Actually, he has run an above-board, decent, fact-based campaign. You have relentlessly attacked Gray with ridiculous nonsense. This website, which is not affiliated in any way with the Gray campaign, has brought up numerous issues and for good reason. You have never responded to two direct accusations of cable theft. You have never responded to the accusation that you were selling guns out of a backroom in your pharmacy while opposing Operation Cease Fire. That was a program endorsed by City Councilman Luis Mendoza to get guns off the streets of Lancaster. You have never responded to your $15,000 bribe letter to Mendoza to get him to vote for your budget. Why don’t you respond to these serious allegations, Mayor? You may need a lawyer one day, Mayor Smithgall. You better hope there’s a lawyer willing to play a “central role” in your “legal defense effort.”
LIARS AND THIEVES
Finally, please see the box below the LIP mole regarding the City Council Meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Southern Conference Center. Interestingly(!) the Intell article today regarding the meeting, “Key vote tonight on funding for city center,” has not been posted online. Scared boys? Should the Penn Square Partners be reimbursed for Christmas decorations and lunches at the Hamilton Club? Is that a joke? Tell them, “NO!” They should be run out of town with the mayor. Tell them, “NO!”
URGENT – PLEASE ATTEND!
From www.lancasterfirst.org – Lancaster City Council will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Southern Market Center to consider purchasing the Watt & Shand building from Penn Square Partners for $7.06 million dollars!
According to the Intelligencer Journal, “once the real estate transfer takes place, Penn Square Partners will have no money invested in the project.” PLEASE attend this meeting to help stop this misuse of YOUR tax dollars.
PLEASE CHECK BACK LATER TODAY.
~ Dumb & Dumber ~
“THEY OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES”
(Democratic Mayoral candidate Rick Gray quoted in today’s Intell article, “Campaign goes to the dogs.” Click here for the article and "Talkback.")
This latest move by the Republicans is so low and so lame it really is just disgraceful and is already backfiring. I didn’t think there was anyone dumber than the mayor, but I think I was wrong. Republican Committee Chairman Russ Miller is taking a run at it. He says, “It’s not something that’s been sponsored by the mayor’s campaign. It’s been paid for by the city committee. The mayor has a responsibility to be above these types of things.” Tell that to the mayor, Russ, who has never been above anything and who, in the space of one hour, completely changed his position and said, “I totally agree with the concept now that I talked to them.” Which one is dumber? Take your pick.
Everyone in this country is entitled to a defense and everyone knows it. It’s guaranteed by the constitution. It is a basic tenet of democracy. Sunday’s big news was that Ron Harper of www.5thestate.com was cited by the police for harassment. Ron had the incident on video tape so the charge was “withdrawn” several days later. If Ron had not had a tape, he would have needed – guess what – a defense lawyer.
Dan Messimer, the “cable guy” is meeting with his lawyers today regarding the appeal on his conviction of defiant trespass on the mayor’s property. Dan, who is married and the father of three, is going to set up a defense fund. His blogspot is here and there will be more information added in the next several days. Dan is also sending the LIP News mole a sympathy card on the death of his brother at the hands of the mayor. The mole thanks you, Dan!
Tonight is the League of Women Voters debate among the City Council candidates at 7:30 p.m. in the Southern Market Center. As regular readers of this site know, the dumb mayor has “copyrighted” the photographs on his website, including the photograph of his all-white, all-male ticket. Hence, I can not post their picture. I can post the Democratic ticket and it is below. The candidates from left to right are: Tim Roschel (city council), Louise Williams (city council), Craig Lehman (city controller), Rick Gray (mayor), Kendra Sauders (city council) and Jose Urdaneta (city council). Brook Duer, candidate for city treasurer, is not pictured.

THOSE BASTARDS
Those bastards. That’s all I can think with this morning with the Intell’s front page story, “City center price tag jumps again.” Not only did the price jump by $3.8 million - but get this – “Penn Square Partners is requesting the city reimburse it for the following:
· $1.25 million for what the partnership paid in 1998 to own Watt & Shand.
· $3.11 million (or $111,060 more than it asked for in April) for fees related to architecture work, engineering, development and legal fees.
· $2.7 million (or $352,537 more than it asked for in April) for fees to secure, insure, maintain and decorate the building.”
Hell, no! Those are costs any landlord incurs. Who the hell do you think you are? All of you crooks can get on the next train out of Lancaster. Adios, three amigos. And take the Drugstore Cowboy with you (thank you to a Talkbacker - that, of course, would be the name of the idiot mayor.)
I am too angry to write anything else. Please check back tomorrow. Please remember the endorsement ceremony for Samuel Mecum for County Judge today at 12:30 in the rear of 53 N. Duke Street (please see the story below).
Also, please click here and read Lanco Yokel’s two new articles, one on crime and one on the mayor - “CharlieWorld.”
See you tomorrow and just tell those PSP bastards, “NO!”
~ Endorsement Tomorrow ~
MECUM FOR JUDGE
Judges are crucial in our society. So on this rainy Friday, I am going to publish a very important press release from the Lancaster County Democratic Chair, Bruce Beardsley, and the Committee to Elect Sam Mecum Judge:
The public and press are invited to attend an endorsement announcement for Sam Mecum by former United States Attorney David M. Barasch on the King Street steps of the Old County Courthouse on Saturday, October 22 at 12:30 p.m. In case of rain, the event will move to Democratic headquarters at 53 N. Duke St., rear.
The endorsement follows on the heels of the October 15 endorsement of the Republicans for Mecum campaign committee and the October 13 Lancaster New Era editorial, in which the paper declines to endorse the Republican candidate for Judge and refers to Reinaker as a “Republican lawyer with a tainted background.” The editorial concludes, “We cannot support Dennis Reinaker for Judge and urge Republicans troubled by his less-than-sterling record to withhold their vote in that contest.”
Bruce Beardsley said, “As the dominant political party in Lancaster County, Republicans have a special responsibility to ensure that their candidates for office meet at least the minimal requirements of competence and integrity. That responsibility is even more critical when nominating a candidate for Judge. In endorsing Dennis Reinaker for County Judge, the Lancaster County Republican Party leadership put political payback and cronyism ahead of their public responsibility.”

EXPERIENCE ~ INTEGRITY ~ COMMITMENT
YOU TELL THEM, BRUCE!
Today there are going to be some random notes and a person I enjoy. Tomorrow, it’s back to the mayor, District Attorney Donald Totaro and Police Chief William Heim, three people I do not enjoy.
This note. This appeared on my traffic report as a “site” that came on to read LIP News: pat-cap1.pahousegop.com. Welcome. It gives me great pleasure that a Republican House member reads my site. Young Gib, is that you? I haven’t forgotten about you. I am still hunting for that special person of color willing to shake your hand. I will keep you informed.
A reminder that the Fox 43 poll regarding the convention center is here: http://fox43.trb.com/. Funny, the Lancaster Newspapers only did one article about this poll although it was posted on a number of Lancaster blogs. Democratic Mayoral candidate Rick Gray said in the last debate that if elected he would immediately do a feasibility study on the convention center to make sure it makes sense or “cents.” That is an excellent idea. The LCCCA just keeps on spending money. Somebody stop them.
Please go to www.sammecum.com. In this election, there is simply no question about who is better qualified to be elected a County Judge. This is history in the making as Mecum will be the first Democratic Judge elected in Lancaster County. Wow!
Finally, to a person I enjoy – Lancaster County Democratic Chairman Bruce Beardsley. He is always reachable, honest and open. I am going to print his latest press release word for word and I think you’ll see what I mean. Also see below this for the Democrat’s Annual Fall Banquet this Friday!
DEMOCRATS FIGHT POLLING PLACE CHANGE
Bruce Beardsley, Lancaster County Democratic Chairman, today urged the County Commissions, acting as the Board of Election, to reject the recommendation of their Chief Clerk, Mary Stehman, to relocate a polling place in Millersville Borough away from Manor Apartments, an assisted living Senior Citizen apartment complex. He said the move to the opposite edge of the precinct boundary is “logically unjustified, morally repugnant, and legally indefensible,” in that it would disenfranchise “…a large group of senior citizens, many of whom are disabled.” Beardsley renewed his claim, first made in a letter to Ms. Stehman on September 30, that this relocation was initiated by Louis Ochey, Millersville Republican leader and was “transparently partisan.” He argued that “Manor Apartments has been a suitable polling place for many years,” and that Ms. Stehman’s “rationale for moving defies the facts and is inexplicable.”
In a prepared statement, Beardsley said, “this is part of a continuing national strategy by the Republican Party. They did it in Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004. Delay did it in Texas, and they tried to do it in Lancaster City earlier this year. If they can’t win legitimately, they try intimidation, redistricting…anything to make it more difficult for Democrats to vote. We had to take them to court earlier this year and we won. Hopefully, even though the Republicans have the majority on the Board of Elections, they will take their oath to ensure a fair election process seriously and do the right thing. I always have faith that people will be fair and honest. Sometimes, I’m disappointed.”
DEMOCRAT’S ANNUAL FALL BANQUET!
Lancaster County’s Democratic Committee’s Annual Fall Banquet is this Friday, October 21, at the Historic Revere Tavern on Route 30 in Paradise! The Keynote Speaker will be Bill George, President of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO. He will join the former Ambassador to Iraq, Conway. “George is a nationally recognized expert on labor, health care and political issues and is a very dynamic speaker,” Bruce Beardsley, the County Democratic Chairman, said in a press release.
The VIP Reception begins at 6:30 p.m. and the Banquet starts at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $50 for the Banquet and $150 for the VIP Reception and Banquet. Reservations are suggested and can be made by calling 299-5701 or by email at lcdchq@epix.net.
