THE WRONG KEY

Well, I thought I had this website stuff finally figured out and then the size “blew up” on me.  I will try to get this site back to a normal size tomorrow.  Every day is a challenge.

So, I will reminisce.  When the old site, www.lipnews.com was corrupted by an error in the host’s software program, I contacted a website “maker” a friend recommended.  I told her the problem.  “Oh, my,” she said.  “That’s why people pay thousands of dollars for a website.  Hit the wrong key and you can destroy it all.”

Well, that made my day – and I don’t think that is true – but there are mysteries that defy logic and every single day is a learning experience.  I will try to “reduce” the size of this website tomorrow.

But I have one other note – there is a tremendous amount of information on the old site and I plan to link to some of it soon.

On September 25, 2006, this website (including www.lipnews.com) will be two years old.  It started with an email to about 20 Talkbackers.  In my first week, the traffic report said there was .25 GB of traffic – I figure that’s about 20 people.  There was a green line that was barely visible.  I contacted my host with a problem – I couldn’t launch their “Site Studio.”  I wrote, “I know I’m just a little site now, but one day I hope to be big.”  They wrote back and said I had to launch with Internet Explorer or Monzilla.  I forwarded the email to my son.  “What does this mean?” I asked.

How much we learn – and how little we know.  Today I received this email again for the fourth month in a row from my host:  “APPROACHING RESOURCE LIMIT.  6.4 GB of traffic has been used this month out of 5 GB limit.”

Thank you for your patience and for reading LIP News.  Thank you.

UpdateOh, happy day!  I think I’m back in business.  Lindy Beichler, David Ludwig, Senator Gib, my parents and much more will come tomorrow.  Thank you for your patience!

Oh, my God! I had a two page article ready to post and I lost it!   This is a new system and I apologize.   It had Lindy Beichler and David Ludwig and my parents and much more in it! Today I am just going to go with my lead story and will do much better and have those items (hopefully) tomorrow.   Thank you for you patience!  Monday, August 21, 2006

ROCK THE PARK!

MAKE YOUR SIGNS NOW!

“…On Wednesday, evening, August 23, at Binn’s Park on Queen Street from 5-8 p.m. in the heart of Lancaster, thousands of people will gather to hear great music, eat great food, and listen to great speeches from candidates for state and federal office. And, once again Governor Ed Rendell will return, at his own insistence, to kick off the rally.”

“…Local bands will be featured and a guest band, Swing State Road Show, a Maryland band that has traveled the country singing their original political rock will make an appearance.”

“Food will be available from local restaurants including Café Borealis, Carr’s Restaurant and Coleman’s Ice Cream.”

Press release from the Lancaster Democratic Committee. There is more information at www.lancasterdems.com.

It sounds like a rocking good time and also an excellent time to tell Governor Rendell, Representative Mike Sturla and Mayor Rick Gray that you don’t want their convention center. Make your signs now! Democrats and Republicans alike!

There will be speeches by Lois Herr, Sturla, Jason Leisey and others. Vote Sturla out - but the other Democrats in! And make your signs now. Tell them “No” to the convention center.

REPERCUSSIONS

“In light of the indeterminate status of the convention center project, it seems hasty and irresponsible to tear down a building that means so much to so many people for a project that may never be built.  I am simply asking the Mayor to use his influence to have the developers stop the demolition until the total financing is secured and the county issues its certification.  I feel the community deserves at least this much.”

Commissioner Dick Shellenberger in his hand delivered letter to Mayor Rick Gray yesterday - www.lancasterfirst.org.

“Gray is spearheading an effort to find $20 million additional funds to keep the project alive.  He said an announcement could come as early as the end of this week.”

“County, city at odds over Watt & Shand demoition,” today’s Intell, click here.

You said that last week, Mayor Gray.  The Lancaster County Convention Center Authority is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Thursday, August 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the Southern Market Center.  Whether this meeting is held or not, and if it is, what occurs, will finally spell out the fate of this white elephant.

Remember this, Mayor Gray, Representative Mike Sturla, Senator Gib Armstrong, the Lancaster Newspapers and High Industries – the people of Lancaster will not forget what you have done.  We will not forget.

And like Joe Lieberman, Representative Mike Sturla is about to receive the shock of his arrogant life.  Bye, Sturla.

“Now that the Netroots power has been cemented, any Democratic presidential candidate will have to consider how to woo these Internet activists – or at least keep them from hating him or her.

“…But for now, this race sends one clear overriding message:  in a liberal state like Connecticut, Democratic candidates defy the Netroots at their own peril.”

Time, “The Unmaking of a Senator:  How Bloggers Staged an Upset,” click here.

“To every Democratic Senator and Congressman who continues to back Bush’s War, allow me to inform you that your days in elective office are now numbered.  Myself and tens of millions of citizens are going to work hard to actively remove you from any position of power.  If you don’t believe us, give Joe a call.”

Letter from Michael Moore, August 9, 2006 – www.michaelmoore.com.

“’They started chasing the geese out of Long’s Park, and now the things have wound up here,’ Howe said.  ‘The city has passed on their problem to somebody else, and now they expect us to deal with it.’”

“…’These geese are eating everything.  They’re making a mess of our pond and our walking trails,’ Howe said.  ‘Geese are notoriously destructive animals.’”

“Official cries fowl over city plan – Leacock secretary/treasure claims Long’s Park geese have been chased to Intercourse,” today’s Intell.

To every action, there is a repercussion.

RACE ON?

THE RACE IS ON!

“It's 8am on August 8, 2006. Do you know where your LCCCA is?”

    Posted on Talkback today.

Will the LCCCA hold their scheduled meeting this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the Southern Market Center?  Anyone want to make bets?  Has the mayor closed the $20 million convention center “gap?”

An anonymous source told me Mayor Gray spoke to Nevin Cooley and Dale High yesterday.  “Listen guys,” he reportedly said, “your company is worth $444 million.  It was just in the papers.  Don’t you think you could put a little something into the convention center fund?  We only need $19,999,979.65 more!”   They reportedly answered, “We’ll have to get back to you on that.”

Wow!  Please stay tuned for updates on the race to fill the “gap.”

FRANTIC

“The posters on here are just mainly that, posters. When it comes to real action or problem solving, they sit on their behinds.”

“…I guess you lancoyokel are a bitcher.”

Posted by the convention center troll.

This troll is just having a field day!  He/she has been messing with every single poster.  But picking on Lanco Yokel?  Now that is the last straw.  Don’t make me come after you, troll.  I eat trolls for breakfast.

One reminder – all a troll wants is attention.  Ignore this poster completely and he/she will become absolutely frantic and scream and fuss louder and louder and then become so desperate for attention that he/she will self-implode!  All that will remain is a lifeless, smoldering pile of crap and lies.  It would be fun to watch…

TIME TO HEAL

“It’s time to pray for cleansing and healing.”

Posted on www.lancasterfirst.org

The night before the LCCCA is scheduled to meet, Wednesday, August 9, Lancaster First is having “A Time of Prayer for Downtown Lancaster.”  It will be held at Mulberry Art Studios, 19-21 N. Mulberry St. from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Click on the link above to go to their site and read more.

VOTE HERR IN!

Lois Herr Hosts Open House at New Campaign Headquarters”

Press Release from the Lois Herr for Congress campaign
Lois Herr will have an open house this Friday, August 11 beginning at 5:00 p.m. in her new campaign headquarters at 151 N. Queen Street (corner of Queen and Chestnut Streets), on the ground floor beneath the Brunswick Hotel.  Refreshments will be provided.

Herr, of course, is running against Joe (he’s the pits) Pitts in the 16th Congressional District.  Please go and show her your support.  The phone number is 717-509-4603.  Her website is www.loisherr.us.

She shares her new quarters with the Rendell, Casey and Sturla campaigns.  Yikes!  While you’re there, tell Sturla (or leave him a note) that you don’t want a publicly funded hotel/convention center in downtown Lancaster.  Vote Lois in – vote Sturla out.

BUGGED BY SMART

“To be sure, it’s not as if Plain golfers are overrunning local courses.  Numbers are impossible to come by, and evidence is anecdotal.”

Gil Smart, “Bogey or buggy?” this week’s Sunday News, click here.

This is simply the most ridiculous “news” article I have ever read.  It is up for worst headline, worst writing, and stupidest story concept of the year.  They will use any excuse to run a picture of a buggy!

A Talkbacker posted this:  “I saw a Lutheran bowling once. Shall I call the newspaper?”  Absolutely you should.  Smart will get right on it.  Do the Lutherans ride in buggies?  Smart will find out.

THE RACE IS OVER!

“’The race isn’t over yet,’ Landis says”

This morning’s front page lead Intell headline.

It’s over Floyd.  The race is over.  Bulletin – you didn’t win.

Gil Smart’s assignment this week – gay Amish golfers!  Wow!

Please check back later today…

~ Time To Move On! ~

POSITIVE VISION

CONFESSIONS

“The time has come to move beyond the mistakes of the past. We need a positive vision for the future of Lancaster that brings everyone together.”

This is from a new position paper on Lancaster First (click here).  Artie See has “True Confessions” (click here).

COMMUNICATE

It’s going to be a busy week.  The LCCCA is scheduled to meet this Thursday at 7:00 p.m.  Apparently the Penn Square Partners and city officials are still racing to fill the $20M “gap.”  This was posted on Talkback:

“As a city taxpayer I plan to communicate my concern to Mayor Rick this week, in no uncertain terms. NO MORE PUBLIC MONEY. If PSP wants their hotel they can damn well cough up some cash.”

That’s an excellent idea.  It sure wouldn’t hurt to let the other major elected officials know as well.  Here are their phone numbers and email addresses:

    Mayor Rick Gray – jrichardgray@aol.com, #291-4701

    Rep. Mike Sturla – msturla@pahouse.net, #295-3157

    Sen. Gib Armstrong – garmstro@pasen.gov,  #397-1309

    Gov. Ed Rendell – governor@state.pa.us, #787-2500

ALIGNMENT

The best quotes of the week:

“Maybe once they build the convention center people will come and stay over.  They should offer incentives to come to downtown Lancaster, like maybe stay 3 nights and get a free front end alignment.”

Posted on Talkback under the Sunday News article, “Fewer visitors staying over.”

“However, a little hint here: do NOT bring up the the Phillies with this duo. Or the convention center project and how the average working man doesn’t get state grants for his business, OK?”

Cindy Stauffer speaking of a couple she interviewed in her New Era article, “Hot & Bothered,” 8-2-2006.

AGENDAS

The internet is a dangerous place – not just for children and teens.  Anyone can pretend to be anything on forums such as Talkback.  You can say you are a doctor, lawyer or an Indian chief.  There is currently a raging troll on the convention center threads.  The men’s rights nutjob continues to tell outrageous lies.  And the “Crow” is harassing a reporter and others.

I am going to ponder all of this and internet safety and come back to it soon.  Cease and desist, Crow.  (Please see the box immediately below.)

CEASE & DESIST

This is a serious message to the “Crow.”  If you email me again it will immediately be forwarded to the Lancaster Newspapers.  For some unknown reason, this individual is targeting a very nice LNP reporter.  I have also learned that this individual has harassed several women who post on Talkback.  My guess would be, Crow, that they are gathering evidence to use against you.  I would cease and desist immediately.  But one more time – if you email me again it will be forwarded directly to the Lancaster Newspapers.

In breaking news, Representative Mike Sturla (see box above) has decided to donate $.25 of his pay raise to the convention center fund!  Wow!  That leaves only $19,999,979.65 to go!   Coming later today – crows, trolls and not another Amish golfing story, Amos!

*** BREAKING NEWS ***

CLEAN IT UP!

Well, Floyd Landis’ second test came back the same as the first.  There’s not much surprise there.  It’s endemic in all sports.  To reach the top level you have to do it.  The only good to come out of this mess may be that they finally, seriously begin to clean things up.

Do I think less of Landis?  Not really.  He’s still a hell of an athlete.  Does he deserve to keep his Tour de France title?  No.  The mentality must change.

In other breaking news, Mayor Rick Gray found a dime on the sidewalk yesterday.  That leaves only $19,999,979.90 of the $20M "gap" to be filled!  WGAL is still running the convention center poll (when do they ever announce the "final" tally of these silly polls?)  Click here.

In other breaking news, this new Muhlenberg College poll is downright scary (click here).

"Sturla at heart is no reformer" - Jeff Hawkes, "A realist in the dreamland of Pa. reform," yesterday's Intell.  You're right about that, Jeff.  Throw the bum out!  94 Days!

Have a nice weekend and please check back on Monday!

*** IMPORTANT ***

Taxpayer Impact of Convention Center Project

Tonight at 7:00 p.m. on Comcast Cable Channel 66, Lancaster County Treasurer Craig Ebersole and former Lancaster City Controller R.B. Campbell will discuss the cost to taxpayers of the proposed convention center project.

~ Before You Go To Jail ~

STOP IT NOW, CROW

STALKING

I am going to switch up today and apologize to the owner of www.reportertalk.com.  This past weekend, a poster who shares my dislike of  Sunday News columnist Gil Smart, “the Crow,” signed on.  Shortly after he did so, another poster posted a docket number of someone charged with stalking.  To this day I have no way of knowing if that is, in fact, the true identity of the poster named the Crow or not.  And I also had no idea that he is one very sick individual.

The Crow tried to find out the identity of the individual who posted the docket number. He repeatedly tried to hack the site and apparently still is.  I would suggest you stop before you go to jail, Crow.  Stop it now.

The owner, “reporter,” obviously knows what he is doing and took the Crow down, but it took up a lot of his time and energy on a site which he explains:

This site is a hobby. Hopefully one day it will prove helpful to people. That is the eventual goal.”

Also, for some reason Ron Harper felt the need to get involved in the whole situation and there will be more on that later on this website.  What is up with this man?

TRASH TALK

I also feel badly because the men’s rights nutjob followed me there.  He/she signed up as “Eat my Shorts” (can you imagine?) and started with the same trash talk he/she posted on Talkback for years – trash like this:

Rubbish and farts have one thing in common. People tend to like their own but are disgusted by those of others. Thus, your existence has at least one normal facet to it.”

He/she is banned but still on the board under a different name.

A FEW BAD APPLES

The site is wonderful.  It’s meant to be educational and fun.  It is not for childish arguments and trash talk and I apologize to the reporter.  The vast majority of people who read my site are nice people, reporter, really they are.

I apologize for all the grief a few bad apples have given you.

I HAVE YOUR BACK

“BeingReal” had the audacity to post this on the Talkback board:  “Horns, I have not lied and you are making libelous posts. That kind of behavior is not permitted on TalkBack. Here's a refresher for you:  (click here).[Update - the Lancaster Newspapers have changed this link to come back to this site.  It did lead to the Talkback "rules, policies and disclaimers."  What a hoot!]

Then “TerryP,” who has broken every single rule over and over again for years posted this:

“Someone sent a perfect description to me of the behavioral disorders the LIP sheeple and their master display. This may explain why they think the board rules don't apply to them.”

Don’t worry, Horns.  I have your back.  The time is coming for the latest round with this men’s rights nutjob.  Unbelievable.

Tomorrow it’s back to the news.
