THE AGE OF LIARS
Bye, Young Gib. I won’t visit you in jail. Resign. What a disgrace. These conservative, family value guys are falling hard and fast. I guess honesty, decency and integrity aren’t part of those values. What a hypocrite. The Lanco Yokel seems to have sensed this coming. Please click here for his excellent piece, “Liberal Indoctrination.” (He's also added new material today.) Enough about ex-Representative Gib. I can’t stomach thinking about him anymore. Daddy, Senator Gib, will more than likely follow suit shortly. Good riddance.
MADONNA DIVES AGAIN
“My suggestion to all candidates is to pay for their own polls. Public polls are not about helping a particular candidate.”
F&M’s G. Terry Madonna quoted in the March 28, 2006 New Era article, “Candidate, pollsters dispute bias claim.”
Yes, Madonna only does polls when he’s paid. And Tom Murse, the author of the article, doesn’t tell us that the New Era is listed on the F&M website as a “client.”
If you are a regular reader of this website, you know that I have zero respect for Madonna. His poll was completely contradicted by a Quinnipiac poll (see “Madonna takes a Swann dive”) below on this site several weeks ago and that has never even been mentioned in the New Era. There will be more this weekend on Madonna’s polling techniques, Chuck Pennacchio and Tom Murse. There is a flat-out lying mentality at the New Era that is scary and defies everything journalism and news sources should stand for - integrity, honesty, decency and public service.
CRAZY AS A LOON
While on that note, what paper puts a jogging Santa Clause article and two pictures of the “pudgy” legged clown on its front page in March or any day of the year, for that matter? This is news? What an absolute disgrace. And yes, Ryan Robinson, a man who wears “his Santa garb every day of the year” almost certainly is crazy.
And just below that article, is the absurd article, “The age of profanity.” Cindy Stauffer is one of the New Era’s better writers, especially on “human interest” type stories. But this isn’t one of them. I feel sorry for her getting this absurd assignment. So the Associated Press did a poll and found that “nearly three-quarters of Americans encounter profanity frequently or occasionally in public.” No !profanity! This is news? Run the AP story on the inside if you must. It certainly does not warrant a “local angle” and it most certainly is not front page news. It just makes me want to cuss up a storm. Schreiber, you are a &&%%!!! $$##!
FRAUDS AND HYPOCRITES
Speaking of New Era editor and Quaker, Ernie Schreiber, as I did several days ago, on March 17, 2006, Tom Murse did the article, “Half a million strong--almost.” Do you realize that out of almost half-a-million people in Lancaster County, 174 adults are members of the Lancaster Friend’s Meeting (Quakers)! That’s .0003 of the population! That is one exclusive and dangerous cult!
More to come on the Quakers later…
PLEASE CHECK BACK TOMORROW…
Young Gib is toast! Madonna takes another dive! Santa jogs and people cuss! What the hell is going on? Please check back later today…
SEND A WOMAN!
Pennsylvania’s 16th District has never sent a woman to the Capitol. Democrat Lois Herr plans to change that. She recently issued a press release titled “In the Footsteps of American Suffragettes.” Part of it follows:
“Women’s political consciousness is not a new thing. From the very beginning in Colonial America, women marched, ran for office, and were even imprisoned, in the struggle to gain the right to vote and have a say in the laws that affect their daily lives. ‘Here in Lancaster County,’ Herr explains, ‘many of the prominent and socially elite women were leaders of the suffrage movement. Mrs. W.W. Griest, Mary Wilson Hager, and Alice Nevin are examples. And I’m proud to say that the local chair of the Woman’s Suffrage Party in 1915 was a Herr – Mary B. Herr. These women were active in lobbying for the right to vote, and successfully so, as our representative in Washington voted for the constitutional amendment.’”
“Since that time, all Americans have benefited from the involvement of women in government. Studies have shown that women legislators, regardless of party, are more likely than their male counterparts to focus on social issues, such as equal rights, environmental protection, child-care, and privacy rights. These are the issues that strengthen the family and the social context in which children are raised.”
What is important to her opponent, six-term incumbent Joe Pitts? “Values” legislation. And what are the top four priorities? A federal “Marriage Protection Amendment” to define marriage as between one man and one woman; the “Unborn Child Pain Awareness Act” which involves abortions after 20 weeks and requires doctors to offer the option of anesthesia for the fetus; a bill to ban cloning and finally, “Religious Liberties Legislation” which would protect the phrase “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance and bar groups like the ACLU from collecting court costs and attorneys’ fees when they sue over religious expression.
This is 2006. There is a terrible war going on with scores of people being killed daily. South Dakota just banned all abortions except to save the mother’s life. Many in this country feel disenfranchised and medical costs are skyrocketing. Jobs are going overseas. Our society has an aging population.
Your “values” legislation is ridiculous, Mr. Pitts. We need a change. We need Lois Herr in the 16th Congressional District – www.loisherr.us.
A GOOD MEAL AND CONGRATULATIONS
Speaking of Democrats, Bruce Beardsley, Chair of the Lancaster County Democrats, encourages people to “come out for a good meal and to congratulate these hardworking Democrats for a job well done.” Their annual awards banquet will be held on Thursday, April 6 at the Quality Inn $ Suites at 2363 Oregon Pike in Lancaster. The cost for dinner only is $48 and for the VIP Reception and dinner the cost is $150. For reservations please call Democratic Headquarters at 299-5701 or order by email at email@example.com . Sherry Robert will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Greg Paulson and Sally Lyall will be honored as Democrats of the Year.
“WE CAN AND MUST DO BETTER”
“I am running for State Representative at a time that America is in a severe state of crisis. Failures of the national administration to control deficit spending; stem the outsourcing of well-paying hi-tech and manufacturing jobs; achieve affordable health care; and harness the vast talent of our youth through proper support of our schools at all levels are frequently answered by ‘9-11,’ ‘9-11,’ ‘9-11!’”
“We see that genuine American patriots like triple amputee and Vietnam War hero former Senator Max Cleland of Georgia and highly decorated Marine Corps Lt. Colonel Congressman Jack Murtha are called treasonous Al-Queda sympathizers. We see that moderate Republican Senators John McCain and Chuck Hagel, both Vietnam War heroes, do not escape the tars and feathers of the Karl Rove propaganda machine.”
“People of good will can respectfully disagree about the solutions to our severe challenges. Increasing numbers of our Republican and Independent friends have joined us in their disgust with politics ‘of the few, by the few, for the few.’ I run for representative with the very deep belief that we can and must do better.”
Democrat Timothy J. Callahan, running for State Representative in the 97th District against incumbent Roy Baldwin, in a February press release. He said today in a phone interview that in the next month he will begin to go door-to-door and hopes to knock on “thousands” of doors. He will have a website shortly. You can contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org or (717) 627-1704. He will be at the Democratic awards dinner.
Please check back tomorrow for the promised stories on the “Smoketown Six,” the CC and LNP reporting and “Millionaire Richard Quick!”

WHOM DO YOU JAIL?
Excerpts from “On S.D. abortion law, loud silence,” by Dick Polman, Political Analyst for the Philadelphia Inquirer, published on the front page of the Sunday Inquirer, March 26, 2006.
“For the party of the elephant, the new South Dakota law – which prohibits the procedure for every woman in the state, unless she is dying – is truly the elephant in the room.”
“Jack Pitney, a former national Republican official and Capitol Hill staffer who closely tracks GOP politics, said the other day: ‘This [abortion law] is a delicate situation for the Republicans. It makes a lot of them nervous. It’s one thing to just talk about banning abortion – and they do that all the time, because it’s a great way to fire up the base and raise money. But it’s another thing to actually ban abortion nationwide.’”
“‘Because that would raise all kinds of uncomfortable questions that could hurt the party politically – such as, if this is truly a crime, whom do you jail? Very few Republican candidates want to answer that question.’”
Polman quotes Jeffrey Bell who he describes as a veteran Washington activist who has worked with religious conservatives, “‘Today? Republicans have all three branches, and Democrats are so worried [about appealing to cultural conservatives] that they recruit Bob Casey, Jr., a pro-lifer, to run for the Senate in Pennsylvania. The Democrats and the pro-choice people are on the defensive in ways they’ve never been before.’”
“Perhaps. But law professor and conservative blogger Glenn Reynolds contends that the new abortion debate ‘will actually be bad for the Republicans. When the topic is defense, the Democrats lose. When it’s sex, the Republicans lose.’”
CRASS, GROSS AND STUPID
Which brings me to Gil Smart and his last two columns, both on abortion. Why would you take one of the most horrible, twisted murders of a co-ed I have ever read about and ask what if she had lived and been pregnant? She didn’t live, Gil. She died a horrible, sick death. What is wrong with you? Is that the only example you could find? Or was it for shock value? Whichever, it was crass, gross and stupid.
And then, of course, this week he asks if abortion becomes a crime, who will be jailed? Well, I think Gil got this idea from excellent and well thought out articles like the one above (the Sunday Inquirer is actually available on Saturdays in Philadelphia). So, I’m really not impressed, Smart. Why don’t you get away from your computer screen and go to an abortion clinic and find out why the girls and women there are getting abortions? Why don’t you do that?
Which brings me to Representative Scott Boyd and his constitutional ban on gay marriage. The New Era cooking article that features him (see the box immediately below) initially ran the week that the 5thestate.com and then this website ran the stories on PSP’s Public Relations and “Gay Guy,” David Kirk. The New Era article was not posted online at that time. Several weeks later, out of the blue, they posted it online as if it was new. I called Ernie Schreiber, editor of the New Era. He said he had no control over what was posted online and “maybe someone wanted to link to it.” Then, unbelievably, it was posted online again on Friday!
One, I don’t believe you, Schreiber. You and your editorial team determine which articles get posted online. And two, a friend reminded me last week that Schreiber is a Quaker. That explains a lot. They are frauds, hypocrites, liars and perverts. I know from personal experience. More on that later.
I’m going to leave it at that today. Tomorrow, I’ll have a look at Representative Joe Pitts and his “values” legislation. (Hint – vote for Lois Herr in the 16th – www.loisherr.us.) I’ll also take a look at Representative Young Gib, the “Smoketown Six” the convention center and Lancaster Newspapers’ reporting and the new love of my life, “Millionaire Richard Quick!”
“WHEN STATE REP. Scott Boyd can’t stand the heat in Harrisburg, he heads for his kitchen." Folks, I am going to take a break this weekend for a little, much needed, spring house cleaning. The Lancaster Newspapers have run this story about Representative Boyd several times now. It should be titled, "Boyd can cook!" He doesn't like gays, but that doesn't stop him from whipping up a batch of scallop scampi! I know where he can buy a nice "GayRites" apron! If you think it's hot now, Boyd, get ready for the big bake-off! The article is here.
