ANYONE CAN DO IT

      I was going to start today with a joke about the New Era winning a Pulitzer Prize for their Leprechaun reporting, but was sadly met with the below news about Justin Quinn.  This saddens everyone in the journalism community.  So, today I am running that story and a very important piece on the Democratic debate tomorrow at F&M.  Tomorrow, the rules for the “I WANT TO BE MARV ADAMS FOR A DAY” contest will run.  Anyone can do it.

CENSORSHIP

      Intell reporter Justin Quinn was fired yesterday at 4:00 p.m. reportedly because he was posting on the Lancaster Newspaper’s Talkback board.  (I'm quite certain he posted as "insider.")  The Lancaster Newspapers are beginning to crack – and rightly so.  Who can work for an organization that lies repeatedly and breaks their code of ethics every single day?   I spoke to Justin once.  I called him regarding Dan Messimer’s claim that former Mayor Smithgall had an illegal cable connection. He confirmed that he had written a story and referred me to the paper’s attorney who had squashed it.

      It was also Justin who wrote a story regarding the Winterstein’s allegation that Smithgall told them he had an illegal cable box.  According to Barry Winterstein, the City Treasurer, and his brother Michael, Justin told them the story was squashed by his editors.  I wish Justin well and there will be much more on all of this later. 

RALLY FOR PENNACCHIO!

     Lancaster County for Pennacchio, a local grassroots campaign supporting US Senate candidate, Chuck Pennacchio, will hold a rally at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, outside the F&M Alumni Sports and Fitness Center prior to the Democratic candidates’ debate at 7:00 p.m.   According to Jerry Policoff, the organizer of the local chapter, “We plan to start the event at 4:30 p.m. and want to start congregating about 4 p.m.  If we can fill that lawn we will become a real news story for the considerable media pool that will be attending the debate.  Please do all you can do to get there and to get the word out to as many people as you can.”  To contact Jerry, email Lancaster@chuck2006.com or call (717) 295-0237.

ROE V. WADE MUST BE SUSTAINED

      This is the second Democratic debate between Casey, Pennacchio and Alan Sandals. Their first square-off took place on April 8 at Slippery Rock University, where Casey went on record in opposition to Roe v. Wade, saying the case was “wrongly decided.”  He also stated he does not support the censure of President Bush or a pull-out of US troops from Iraq.  In contrast, Pennacchio favors a planned withdrawal from Iraq, sustaining Roe v. Wade as established law, and backing Russ Feingold’s censure resolution as a possible prelude to impeachment proceedings. 

     The Center holds 3,000 people and the debate is open to the public.  It will be moderated by F&M’s G. Terry Madonna.

    It is incomprehensible.  A tragedy in Lititz.  Then a tragedy in Leola.  Shocking and brutal and graphic crimes.  And they both happened in Lancaster County, home of the Amish.  The peace loving farmers who keep Lancaster County sleepy and safe.

    The tragedy is blared over the front page of this morning’s Intell, “’More bodies than any of us handled at one time.’”  And on the first page of the local news section – there’s a beautiful picture of an Amish buggy going down a rural road under the heading, “Signs of Spring.”

    So, what do the Amish have to do with two brutal crimes and a country’s shock?  Nothing and everything. 

    They have unknowingly allowed Lancaster County to be one of the most corrupt counties in this country for years and years and years.    It is no less than a conspiracy involving the Lancaster Newspapers, the District Attorney’s office and the Lancaster Police.

    In September of 2001, I spent a week putting out the special edition of the Lancaster Independent Press, titled, “LANCASTER LYCHING – TWENTY YEARS LATER.”  I sent a copy to Lancaster District Attorney Donald Totaro and met with him for an hour several weeks later.  This is the letter I sent him following our meeting:

Dear Mr. Totaro:

 

Thank you very much for our meeting Friday, October 5.  I would like to review the police files on the Henderson assault you had in your office that day.  I will be back in touch with more specifics.

 

Regarding the statute of limitations for both the Henderson and Rhoads assaults, I have been advised that if deception, fraud or a cover-up existed, there are exceptions.  Every wrong should have a right.

 

I will pursue this further and, again, be back in touch.  I will be interested in following the Richard Martinez case.
