Yesterday, I posted an email I received regarding David Kirk, the PR guy for Penn Square Partners (see articles below on this website). I should have said I agreed with everything in the email except for this, “As you well know, ultra-conservative LancasterCounty for the most part believes gay marriage is morally wrong, maybe even more so than gambling.”
I don’t believe that is true.I think the Lancaster Newspapers, in the ultimate hypocrisy, keep telling us that. Why is Lancaster so “ultra-conservative?”Why is one county the bastion of conservatism in the whole state?Because of the Lancaster Newspapers. That’s why.
BOYD’S AN IDIOT
They wrote article after article on Representative Scott Boyd’s incredibly stupid “Marriage Protection Act.”On February 3, Jane Holahan of the New Era wrote, “’Brokeback’ goes mainstream.”Her opening sentence?“How can a movie about two men falling in love with each other become a success in a conservative bastion like LancasterCounty?”Then Holahan desperately goes looking for people to knock the movie and she doesn’t find any. It’s a really stupid, pointless article.
Her third and fourth sentences tell the whole story, “’It’s been doing well here,’ says Mitchell Cole, a manager at the Regal Cinemas.‘There does seem to be a pretty good mix of people in the audience.’”End of story. What happened to “conservative” Lancaster?
IT’S SELF-EVIDENT THAT HE’S AN IDIOT
One day later, Janet Kelley of the New Era, “profiles” Boyd in their Saturday “Newsmaker” feature with a story titled, “’An impact on our society.’” She has the following question and answer with Boyd, “Why does he support the one-man-one-woman definition of marriage?‘I believe there’s no truth that’s more self-evident,’ Boyd said.”
Boyd’s an idiot. Then Boyd says, “My harshest critics have come from the southeast part of the state, around Philadelphia,’ he said.”Hmmm.Blame it on those crazy liberal Philadelphians. And of course, David Kirk lives in Phoenixville!
TIMOTHY L. CALLAHAN
Timothy L. Callahan, the Democrat running for State Representative in the 97th District against incumbent Roy Baldwin, states the following in a press release yesterday:
“Thrice divorced radio commentator Rush Limbaugh rants and raves about family values and himself determines who is a ‘real American.’‘Book of Virtues’ author Bill Bennet tells the rest of us how to live while hiding his own multi-million dollar gambling addiction.
“In Harrisburg legislators of both parties participate in the illegal pay grab.We see that legislators have not seen fit to raise the State’s minimum wage from $5.15 an hour in 9 years. We see that Lancaster County Republican legislators latch on to hot button issues like the Marriage Protection Act that would deny the most basic civil rights (medical decision making and inheritance rights) to people who find their life partners among people of their own gender.”
I like this man. There will be more on Callahan at a later date.
I’m also beginning to really enjoy Larry Alexander’s Intell columns. This morning he writes, “Warning:Not everything in this column is a fact.”There are several enjoyable moments but my favorite is this:
“The truth is, I am a moderate liberal (no, that’s not an oxymoron) who thinks only a sizable portion of Republicans are yahoos.(Unless we are discussing the proposed marriage amendment, in which case all of them slip over the edge into lunacy.)”
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
LCCCA MEETING TONIGHT!
There is a meeting of the Lancaster County Convention Center Authority tonight at in the Southern Market Center. Please try to attend.Who knows - maybe David Kirk and Scott Boyd will both be there. Will the Lancaster Newspapers ever mention Kirk’s websites? Will Boyd buy a thong?Wow!
LACK OF INTELLIGENCE
The handful of Talkbackers who support the Convention Center suddenly have become the biggest defenders of the “gay lifestyle.” This was posted today in huge print, “Attacking someone for being gay is stupid. It really shows lack of intelligence.”We aren’t attacking anyone for being gay.The Lancaster Newspapers do that. We’re just pointing out their total hypocrisy. Please see the two New Era articles mentioned above. And Mr. Kirk’s websites are not “mainstream” by any means.Ask your gay friends.

The “GayRites Classic Thong” available on David Kirk’s website (click here).
What would State Representative Scott Boyd say?
This email in – “The big deal to me is that PSP - through the work of David Kirk - promotes itself as being a savior of Lancaster and its values. As you well know, ultra-conservative LancasterCounty for the most part believes gay marriage is morally wrong, maybe even more so than gambling. That PSP would hire someone in a public relations job who is not only openly gay, but also has two web sites promoting gay marriage and the gay lifestyle, creates a discrepancy that needs to be made public.”
I couldn’t agree more. This is total hypocrisy on the part of the Lancaster Newspapers, a Penn Square Partner. The LNP ran story after story about State Representative Scott Boyd who wants to amend the state’s constitution to “protect” marriage and recognize it as being only between one man and one woman.
Are the Lancaster Newspapers going to completely ignore Kirk’s very open and controversial websites now that they have been brought to the public’s attention? As noted on this website several months ago, Kirk sells “Start the Convention Center Project” merchandise also on Café Press (click here). As I have noted several times, the “logo” used is downright ugly.Maybe Kirk is trying to secretly sabotage the Convention Center?
The public has a right to know about Kirk’s websites. The Lancaster Newspapers have a duty to report it and a duty to get an explanation from all parties involved. Then, and only then, can the public make informed choices.
[Please note "Stop The LCCC" T-shirts and buttons are availablehere.]
Once again, please go to www.5thestate.com.This is classic.I spoke with David Kirk by phone this morning.I asked him if the Lancaster Newspapers were aware of his two websites. He said, “I don’t know. It’s not relevant.”I told him that they were certainly aware of it now.I asked him if he thought it would affect his PR position with the Penn Square Partners. He said, “No, not at all.It will have no impact.”He said of the report on the 5thestate website, “Mr. Harper is trying to embarrass me through my personal relationship. It shows his stripes.”
Mr. Kirk, I have to disagree.I support you in your quest for gay rights. But if you have two websites that are that “out there,” and you are deeply involved in a $140 million publicly funded project, Harper has every right to post it as a legitimate story.
As noted by Harper, David Kirk posts on LOL Talkback.Under his profile in the “Interests” category he lists, “Truth, fairness, justice and the American Way.”It takes on a whole new meaning now.
This is classic.I’m going to take the rest of the day off to reflect on life’s twists and turns.
